January 1, 2003 – December 31, 2003

Hawaii Ocean Safety Team (HOST) was formed in 1998 as a non-profit organization whose vision is to promote stewardship of Hawaii’s waters and enhance ocean safety. HOST is comprised of representatives from business, government, and the community who are committed to identifying maritime concerns and developing solutions before they become major issues.

During 2003, HOST conducted six Membership Meetings that included such topics as the Marine Transportation System, Homeland Security, Day Use Moorings, NOAA Weather Broadcasts, Marine Sanitation Issues, Marine Protected Areas and Whales vs Vessels. HOST participated in the Annual National Harbor Safety Conference in New York, the Hawaii Boat Show, Get-the-drift-and-bag-it, and the Honolulu Harbor Festival.

HOST received its IRS 501 (c) (3). HOST utilized its extensive network to notify the members of various safety and security issues and testified on various Hawaii safety/security issues.
